Matt Damon Renews Vows in Wedding Sequel
You may already know that action movie star Matt Damon, of Bourne Identity and OceanÍs Eleven fame, has been married for seven years. But, Damon and his wife of seven years, Luciana, renewed their wedding vows in the middle of April this year. For their original wedding in 2005, the two planned to marry in Miami during the winter holidays in 2005. But, after the event was leaked to the media (thatÍs a terrible gift for the groom and bride), the couple worried that a frenzy of helicopters and meddling paparazzi would ruin the day, so instead they ran off to city hall in NYC. The primary reason the two made the public statement of commitment again was due to their desire to have their respective families hear the vows, not a repeat of wedding gifts as might be my motivation. Although serious about the sentiments, Damon made a light joke of the vows saying that ñIt's nice to say your vows in front of family. That's the point of taking the vows. These are people who will hold you to them. One of my vows was I gave her the side of the bed closer to the bathroom. And if I don't stick to that, I'm gonna hear about that from my mom, brother and father." So on April 13, the pair made sure their plans would remain private by renting out the entire Sugar Island Bead Resort on the island of St. Lucia. For the wedding re-do, Damon and his wife were able to repeat their vows in in the presence of all their loved ones. Jimmy Kimmel actually officiated the ceremony and celebrity friends including Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Chelsea Clinton and Chris Hemsworth were also in attendance. We are assuming that Damon and LucianaÍs three daughters along with her daughter from another marriage were also part of the wedding entourage. Vow renewals have become very popular with celebrities and ñregularî people alike. The ceremony is a reaffirmation of the coupleÍs love and commitment to each other that can be shared and celebrated with family and friend. Couples may choose to renew vows only once in a lifetime, perhaps on a landmark anniversary or others may choose to renew vows on a more regular basis. An American couple from Tennessee holds the Guinness Book of World Records for vow renewals, remarrying each other 100 times since their original union in 1982! If you are having an all-out vow renewal ceremony, you may be having groomsmen stand at your side _ either the old originals or new buddies. Regardless of the case, a meaningful choice in groomsmen gifts will show that you appreciate their friendship and support of your marriage. Groomstand.com has a wide selection of groomsmen gifts for gentlemen of all ages and interests, from executive gifts for groomsmen they can display on an office desk to leisure-inspired groomsmen gifts that can be enjoyed in down time. Regardless of the selection, heÍll be reminded of your vow renewal and friendship each time the best man gift or groomsman gift is used. Okay, this is a little off topic, but weÍre movie fans _ what has been your favorite Matt Damon movie of all time? Let us know in the comments below:

Grooms, Put Best Foot Forward
Your wedding day is fast approaching and we know you want to put your best foot forward in every sense of the phrase. Today, there are quite a few choices when it comes to picking the right shoes for the groom and groomsmen. Color and comfort of course are key, but another important consideration is the formality of your wedding. Converse sneakers or cowboy boots may be a statement of fashion (and function) at casual weddings, but more traditional affairs usually require a dressier shoe. Below, check out the different types of shoes that may work with your tuxedo, dark suit or event sports coat. Plus, remember that shoe-centric gifts for groomsmen are a unique and quite practical way to say “thanks.” One of the shoe-inspired groomsmen gifts at Groomstand.com is our personalized teak and brass shoe horn, an exceptional piece made with every attention to detail – it looks as if it belongs in the chambers of a well-dressed, well-monied gentleman. Shoe shine kits also make great groomsmen gifts and help ensure that the guys show up on the big day and pass “inspection.” Two of our favorite shoe shine kits to give as groomsmen gifts include our personalized shoe shine kit in black and stainless case and personalized ultra-suede and leather shoe shine kit. Oxfords: First known as Balmorals in England, this type of shoe traditionally has a relatively low instep, closed lacing and a non-rubber sole. Today, suede or synthetic materials may also be used in the construction. One notable about oxfords is that they have virtually no embellishments, making them a sound choice for a number of suit styles. Tuxedos look great with a pair of high-polished black oxfords. Loafers: Loafers have been in fashion since the beginning of the 20th century and can be either dressy or worn as a dressy sport shoe – imagine yachting, not basketball. An identifying feature of loafers is that they have no laces or buckles. Leather loafers slip on and have a moccasin-like top and wide and fairly flat heel. Loafers can have adornments including or decorative strap across the top – think penny loafers. Although they have a more casual connotation, nice loafers can work well for dressier, although not white tie, events. Cap Toes: The basic construction of a cap toe resembles an oxford; the main difference that the cap toe has leather pieced into the toe of the shoe that can be plain or trimmed by a band of leather that can be perforated or have sheared edges. Dress Boots: Dress boots are a far cry from cowboy boots or army boots. Dress boots have a streamlined silhouette and rise up to the ankle. These more formal boots, that can be plain with high-polished or feature a wing-tip design, have a slight heel making them perfect to wear with your wedding day attire if you’re looking for a little lift. Monk Strap: This style of shoe refers to dress shoes that are similar to loafers in that they don’t have laces. But, instead of having tassels like loafers, monk strap shoes have a metallic buckle and a leather strap on the upper portion of the shoe. While quite sophisticated, the buckle and wider heel give this type of shoe a slightly more casual look, making them great for a wedding with sports coats and khakis. Have you decided on a shoe style for your wedding day attire yet? Or are you giving useful shoe-inspired groomsmen gifts? Let us know in the comments below.

Reel Fun - Bachelor Fishing Party
Do you have buddies whose idea of a good time is waking up before dawn to get a prime fishing spot? Or maybe the early bird who catches the worm . . . er, fish, is you. If you and your friends love to fish, you are not alone. Thousands and thousands of men fish for fun and sport across our beautiful country’s numerous lakes, rivers and oceans. Most men like to fish with a reel and rod or fly fishing, although some brave guys will get out there and go “noodling.” If you’ve never seen this crazy sport, noodling requires the fisherman to pull out bottom-dwelling fish from the holes that they hide in underwater with his bare hands. Big game fishing for marlin, shark and other large fish is also a popular pastime with outdoorsmen types. If you are looking for a bachelor party that is an alternative to a “go out and get drunk then head to a strip bar” kind of event, a fishing weekend is definitely a 180 degree turn of events. You may still enjoy some beers and swigs from groomsmen flasks, however the only thing you will see dancing is a fish as it flops around on the dock. Just imagine how relaxing and fun it would be to get away from the hustle and bustle of wedding planning and the everyday rat race, to kick back in a cabin with your best friends and fish in the early morning and at dusk and fill the remainder of your hours with great conversation, great grilling and some games – perhaps poker, dominoes or even video games! If you plan to chow down on your fish (and please tell us you are catching and releasing if not) then we have lots of good tips for your cook. First, you’ll want to outfit him up in a master griller type apron, one with lots of pockets for his gear and protection from splatters. A good knife is always key for scaling, gutting and cleaning up what you’ve bagged before it hits the skillet. Our personalized filet knife is simple, but to the point. And, when you add a special personalization it makes a mighty fine choice in groomsmen gifts. If your fearless chef is cooking up the fish over the grill or an open fire, our three-piece grill accessory set will have him geared up for success – a spatula, pair of tongs and fork are all included. After the bachelor weekend comes to an end, you’ll want to touch base about your final “fish tales” so that everyone’s story holds up once you head back to reality. Really, it was amazing how that 50 pound catfish got away! You’ll also want to thank your friends for hanging out with you with a fishing-inspired choice in groomsmen gifts. Our fishing lure keychain is a favorite; it looks just like an old-school lure and makes a great way to hold his keys while holding his many memories of a fun fishing weekend. Another idea in gifts for groomsmen is to treat them to a personalized sign that they can hang up in a den, home bar, man cave or other spot of rest and relaxation – maybe they even have their own fishing cabin! Our personalized cabin sign with a trout design and personalized fly fishing sign are two handsome choices in these groomsmen gifts.

So Many Reasons to Get Married
Current research suggests a person’s level of happiness is related to whether or whether not that person is married. The Office of National Statistics in the UK polled 165,000 British people about their overall satisfaction with life and anxiety levels. What they discovered is that being married is 20 times more important to happiness levels than salary and 13 times more important than being a home owner. If you think about it, getting married could be the best gift you could ever give yourself – this wedding gift keeps on giving! According to the survey results, being married was the third most deciding factor related to happiness and overall well-being, after health and employment status. Marriage as a factor in happiness even came in ahead of religion and having children. In addition, people who are married report being happier than couples who are cohabitating, single, divorced or widowed. Other studies have linked marital status with overall life satisfaction. One study conducted in 2012, discovered that being married protects against an age-related reduction in happiness. So, getting older is more bearable when you have someone to do it with! Groomstand.com suggest marking each passing anniversary with a special personalized gift to commemorate your shared love and happiness! Being united with another person in marriage also has significant health perks, too. Research has shown that singles who were never married were more than twice as likely die early as people in a long-term relationship. You’ve probably heard this benefit of getting married before, but it bears repeating. Married couples, even more so than couples just co-habitating, are healthier. Research has shown that married couples report fewer incidences of cancer, heart disease, depression and stress. Being married can be likened to a bottle of fine wine, it gets better and more worthwhile over time. In fact, break out that personalized corkscrew you received as a wedding gift and toast to your significant other for a lifetime of happiness. Another interesting outlook toward marriage is that a good deal of people, and a surprising number of younger people, actually do expect marriage to last a lifetime. One study found that 86 percent of both single and married people in the 18 -29 year old age group believed in “until death do we part.” It is nice to know that the young generation still has the romantic ideal about marriage and wants to put in the work to make it succeed. While some advice givers might tell you that the honeymoon stage (typically meant to be the first year of marriage) is the best phase of a relationship, an Australian study actually found out that couples are happiest after the first year has passed. Often the first year of marriage can be a “wedding hangover,” filled with unrealistic expectations of the relationship, wrinkles that need to be ironed out from newly living together, paying off the wedding and other early life-stage stresses. So, if you have been experiencing “cold feet” when it comes to getting married, get some socks! Well, seriously, you should know that any life change is bound to cause anxiety, but in the end, you’ll be happier and live longer. It sounds like a win-win! Assuming you’ve already popped the question, get going on that wedding planning? Pick you groomsmen and get them groomsmen gifts (and don’t forget a specialbest man gift), plan a honeymoon, select a gift for the bride from the groom (perhaps a pretty necklace and jewelry box to keep it in) and plan the rehearsal dinner. Remember, don’t worry – be happy! Be happy you’re getting married!

Getting Married in Vegas
Getting married in Las Vegas is a great option for couples looking to get hitched quickly but without the dull ambiance of a hometown justice of the peace. For folks who don’t want a lot of fuss and family, a Vegas wedding is one of the best wedding presents ever! There is no waiting period or blood test required to get a marriage license in Nevada which means that long-time lovebirds or even those who have just recently met can be married quicker than you can say “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.” With more than 315 marriages performed per day, Las Vegas has become known as the Wedding Capital of the World and its booming wedding industry is second only to gambling. Popular places to get married are the Little White Wedding Chapel or the Graceland Wedding Chapel, both with drive-thru options. Even though it’s super-easy to say “I do,” you and your significant other do need to come armed with a little bit of information (and be at least 18 or have written guardian permission). For example, both parties will need to show up with valid, original, certified copies of personal identification, such as a driver's license, state-issued identification card, a birth certificate, military ID, or a passport. The Clerk's Office may also accept student ID cards, prison-issued ID cards, and foreign birth certificates that have been translated into English. If divorced, you will also need to know the details of the final decree including as the exact date and jurisdiction of the divorce; however, you don’t need to have the actual paperwork. You also will need to know your social security numbers to write down on the Affidavit of Application for Marriage and come with $60 to cover the cost of the license. There will be other expenses for the venue, witnesses, an officiant, tuxedo and gown rental and so on but these costs are still extremely cheap when compared to a traditional wedding. For many, getting married in Las Vegas is the cool thing to do, it certainly seems like tons of celebrities have tied the knot here. Now, whether these have been long and lasting relationships is another story. One of the shortest lasting marriages was the one between Britney Spears and her childhood friend Jason Alexander. The two got married on a whim in Las Vegas but ultimately annulled the union 55 hours later. Another marriage that didn’t stick much past a week was the one between Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman, the deal was annulled 9 days later – perhaps because Dennis was the one wearing the dress! Another hookup that lasted less than a season was the marriage of Pamela Anderson and longtime Rick Salomon, they said “I do” at the Mirage Hotel but then decided “We don’t” two months later. Other Vegas marriages that didn’t last include 2 years for Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow, 2 years for Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thorton, 4 years for Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, 13 years for Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. Melanie Griffith and Don Jonson actually got married in Las Vegas in 1976 and then called it quits 6 months later only to reunite in 1989 and stay married for another six years. But, believe it or not, some celebrity Vegas weddings have actually had some staying power. Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos eloped to Las Vegas in 1996 and remain happily married with children to this day. During the heyday of his heartthrob status in 1989, Jon Bon Jovi married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Hurley in Vegas and the pair remains together to this day. But, probably the record goes to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward who were united in holy matrimony in Sin City and remained together in a loving relationship until his death 50 years later. If you are planning a Vegas wedding, Groomstand.com has lots of memorabilia that will help you commemorate the event. Vegas bachelor party t-shits make a great souvenir for your buddies as you all make merry through the strip on the night before your wedding. Plus, if you get too drunk, these groomsmen gifts “label” each guy with his respective role in the wedding – this makes sure the “right man,” not the “best man” is getting married! Another fun Vegas groomsmen gift idea is personalized prints and signs that feature the iconic welcome sign for this city. If you are getting married in Vegas, let us know in the comments below! Will you “drive-thru” or have a more formal event in one of the hotels?

Unusual Marriage Laws Around the World
In our last blog post, we reported about the unusual law in India requiring a groom to provide proof to the state that he will be providing his future with toilet accommodations. This seemingly odd demand (which actually has public sanitation and safety implications) had us wondering about other strange-but-true wedding requirements across the world. Before obtaining a marriage license in Greece, a couple must have a notice printed in the local Greek newspaper that outlines their intent. The notice must contain the names of the betrothed along with the date of the wedding and where the festivities will take place. If there is no local newspaper, these details can be posted in other public places including city hall. Wow, just imagine how easy this makes wedding crashers! Better order an extra-large cake! Religious wedding ceremonies are not acknowledged legally in the country of Turkey. In order to make your union fly with government officials, the ñI doÍsî have to take place in a civil ceremony. Afterward, a religious ceremony may be held if the couple so chooses. In France, either the bride or the groom must show proof of living in the country for a minimum of 40 consecutive days before getting hitched. So, if you are planning a romantic vacation to Paris or some other French city, donÍt expect that you can say your ñI doÍsî . . . . make that ñOuiÍsî as tourists! With This Toilet, I Thee Wed
In India, getting married comes with a price. Oh, yes, I'm sure your saying, getting married always comes with a price _ an engagement ring, a big mortgage or even just putting up with a nagging wife.î Well, that may be how it is in the US, but in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, that price in the cost of a toilet. Yes, a toilet. In order to participate in a recent mass marriage ceremony, grooms had to prove that they owned a toilet. Apparently less than half of households in India can lay claim to such a luxury. This prerequisite to tying the knot was made in an effort to improve overall sanitation; no doubt a problem of epic proportions in a country lacking adequate facilities. As part of Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna (MKY), a program intended to help poor women marry, the man also benefits from providing this gift to the bride from the groom. Under the program, a couple may marry for free in a mass ceremony and stands to receive wedding gifts worth 15,000 rupees -- $270 US. So, how does an Indian fellow prove he has a toilet? Well, he has to mail in a photograph of himself along with the prized possession. If he has not secured a toilet, the groom has to prove his intent to have one installed within 30 days of the wedding. ItÍs not just about having a private place to do her business. Government statistics suggest that fewer women would be raped in India if they had a toilet available for use in the home. This means that they would not have to leave their homes, often unescorted at night, to do their business. This really puts life here in the US into perspective; many of us have 2, 3, 4 or more toilets in the home. Our idea of wedding gifts is not porcelain thrones, but rather fine barware and plates for a dining room table or expensive tools and gadgets. Is This Anyway to Start "Until Death Do We Part"
Are you too busy to attend your own wedding? Perhaps you have a business meeting at corporate headquarters, are enjoying a vacation and don’t want to come back or, more likely, been deployed overseas with the military. Well, never fear, for if you live in California, Colorado, Texas or Montana you can get married “by proxy.” In a marriage by proxy, either the bride or the groom does not appear in person for the wedding ceremony. During the solemnization of the marriage, another person stands in for the absent party, acting on a power of attorney. And, in certain counties of Montana, both the bride AND the groom do not have to be physically present to get married – this is called a “double proxy” marriage. One of the most famous unions created by double proxy was that of Emperor Napoleon and Archduchess Marie Louise in 1810. It’s hard to believe you could be in one place and the bride could be thousands of miles apart and you could still get married. Now that’s a gift for the groom who doesn’t like to be the center of attention -- or even the attention of his finance. These laws were originally put on the books for the convenience of military personnel who were stationed apart yet need to get married in a hurry. But, of course, people from all over the world take advantage of the strange law and try to get hitched through mere paperwork in Montana. Just because you don’t have to show up for a double proxy wedding doesn’t mean it’s free. The expenses incurred by the real bride and groom includes $50 apiece to the proxies (agents who have agreed to stand in as “bride” and “groom”), $100 to the judge, $150 to the lawyer (and witness); $53 for court fees; $14 for two certified copies of the marriage certificate. However, this is a small fraction of the price for flying back from overseas for the weekend to attend your wedding and all the other expenses that go with that such as tuxedos, wedding cakes and so on. Another issue to note with marriage by proxy is that it may not be considered legal in states outside where the union was originally created. While some states may give the thumbs up, other states may only recognize the union as a common-law marriage. Iowa is the only state in the US doesn’t acknowledge them at all. It is good to check out all the legal implications before you say your virtual “I do’s.” Many people who opt in for this curious ceremony may actually choose to have a siblings or friends stand in rather than hiring a “professional” proxy. If this is the case, remember to choose a thoughtful gift to send as a way of saying “thank you for filling in for me during my absence.” For your stand-in groom, any number of best man gifts or groomsmen gifts would be appropriate. Tuxedo Time _ How to Wear it Well
If you want to look sharp in your tuxedo, you need to make sure it fits perfectly. Even the most expensive formal wear can look sub-par if it doesn’t fall just so over the wear’s physique. Without a doubt, fit is the most important factor in a tux regardless of if you are renting or having one custom-made. Remember to give yourself enough lead time when securing your tux, keeping into mind that tuxedos take time to alter – it can’t just be done while you stand there and wait. Make sure all the groomsmen know about this too! Also, if you can afford to, it is a very nice gesture to pick up the rent tab on the groomsmen tuxedos – in addition to their groomsmen gifts. Share the following fit tips and every one in your wedding party will look good and feel good on the big day. The Jacket: A tuxedo jacket should always fit comfortably around the neck and shoulders, regardless of the style. Also make sure you can easily fasten it and there is no straining at the buttons. Also, sit down wearing the jacket buttoned to make sure it’s not too tight. Hold your arms overhead to make sure that the chest and should offer enough room for mobility – there should be no pulling in the front or stretching across the back. The jacket sleeve should end where the thumb meets the wrist, showing ½” of the shirt cuff. Also make sure that the bottom hem covers your rear and the back vent doesn’t pull open. Tuxedo jackets with tails should fall to the back of your knee. The Trousers: The pants must button with ease, you don’t want too snug of a fit and risk popping off a button during the vows. The pant crease should fall in a straight, unbroken vertical line to the bottom hem. The pants should hit the top of your shoe tops, falling slightly to just above the laces of the shoe. If you are looking to slim your silhouette, choose flat-front pants over pleated pants. The Shirt: Whatever the color, choose a shirt that fits comfortably around the neck, shoulders and waist. As mentioned earlier, cuffs should pop out to ½” from the jacket sleeve. The collar should lie flat around all sides of the neck and not gap in any way. If you are wearing a traditional tie instead of a bow tie, a tie clip may be worn. The Vest: You may or may not be wearing a vest, but if you are, make sure it covers the waistband of the pants and is worn completely buttoned up. Use the adjustment straps on the sides or back for a perfect fit. Shoes: Tradition dictates black shoes and can be whatever style you like, from wingtip to loafer to boot. Some grooms may choose to show their independent spirit with another footwear choice – like black Converse sneakers. Cummerbund: The cummerbund is the pleated fabric belt that is worn around the middle, covering the waistband of your pants. Remember to face the pleats upward for the official look – some have said to think of movie ushers sticking ticket stubs in the cummerbund to remember the orientation of the cummerbund. Socks: Again, tradition dictates black socks but bright, colorful socks are a modern way to add personality to your tuxedo look. You can keep fun color and not look like a clown! Jewelry: Many grooms and groomsmen choose to wear cufflinks on their tuxedo shirts. French cuff style cuffs don’t have buttons and need an alternative way to fasten – hence, cufflinks. Cufflinks also make a great choice in groomsmen gifts and way to unify the look of all the gentlemen in your wedding party. Groomstand.com has a large selection from traditional engraved cufflinks with a monogram to novelty cufflinks (such as skulls or dice) that can represent the personality of the recipient. Are you and your groomsmen dressing up in tuxedos? Or, are you opting for the anit-groom, casual look? Let us know your wedding day attire in the comments below.

Best-Ever Beer Cocktail for a Summer Wedding
Now that I have caught the attention of beer-loving grooms everywhere, let me elaborate. IÍm talking about the Michelada, the Mexican beer cocktail that is made with beer, tomato juice, spices, sauces and such. A good way to describe it is as a Bloody Mary made with beer instead of vodka. And, if you failed high school Spanish and are stumbling over the pronunciation, just say ñmee-che-LAH-dah.î This "cerveza preparada" is a refreshing and tasty option for your wedding reception or bachelor party. I like a lot of things about the Michelada. In addition to the taste, the drink makes an economical choice for a larger wedding and one that wonÍt get guests overly intoxicated (well less so than drinks made with hard liquor). You can use bottles or cans of beer in the recipe -- or even tap from a keg of beer. The one thing to remember though is to always, always use a Mexican beer like Corona or Dos Eques, for an authentic taste, somehow it just doesnÍt keep the same south-of-the-border flair when using a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Drinking a Michelada reminds me that variety is the spice of life. There are so many different takes on the casual cocktail; it varies by the region, bartender and personal preference. For example, a ñcheladaî contains simply lime and sea salt, but not any of the tomato juices and spicy sauces. A ñcubanaî is made with Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, chile and salt. And, a ñclamatoî is made with clam and tomato juice. The drink actually started when a Latin American fellow would ask his bartender for what was, for all practical purposes, a beer lemonade. The citrusy concoction caught on with his friends and, over time, was changed to add other ingredients. Spanish-speakers also say that the word Michelada sounds similar to the phrase ñMi chela helada," which loosely translates into saying ñMy cold beer.î Give me a cold beer now! The Michelada movement has really taken off in the United States and a number major breweries are now bottling their own versions. Homemade batches of the recipe are still the best though, the ingredients are far fresher and itÍs meant to be served in a pleasing-to-hold pint glass, not some cheap aluminum can or bottle. Groomstand.com has a nice selection of pint glasses that work perfectly with this cocktail. Our old-fashioned mason jar glasses are also fun with this recipe. There are rumors that a good Michelada in the morning can also help to cure a hangover. We think itÍs based on the ñhair of the dog that bit you theory.î Hope you enjoy our favorite recipe for a Michelada and make sure to hook your buddies up with personalized beer mugs and personalized coasters as fitting groomsmen gifts. Groomsmen Micheladas coarse salt for rim pint glass ice cubes 1 _ cup Clamato¬ juice (or tomato juice) _ cup salt 1 lemon, juiced 1 dash Tabasco¬ (or more to taste) _ teaspoon soy sauce _ cup cold beer Lemon wedges for garnish Wet rim of pint glass and dip into coarse salt. Turn glass back over and add ice cubes. Fill glass up two-thirds of the way with Clamato juice; add salt, lemon juice, Tabasco and soy sauce. Stir lightly to combine. Pour in beer, stir gently again. Garnish with lemon. Makes just one Michelada so youÍll have to repeat for each groomsmen who is patiently standing in line. Or, you can also multiply the ingredients and make enough for everyone in one big batch. So, have you ever had a Michelada? If so, what is your favorite version? Let us know in the comments below.
