Duties Shouldn't Always Tax

Your groomsmen should have more of a part in your wedding than the bachelor party and the ceremony and it's important to make sure that they know what those responsibilities are (hopefully they're reading this too!). The groom has some of the responsibility too though, picking guys that are reliable, that are friendly, and above all good friends. Once they've been asked and have decided to participate the ball is in their court. A more detailed description of what should be expected can be found here, but we'll go ahead and give you a quick run down of what your groomsmen will be getting ready for: - Rent wedding attire per Groom's request and at your own expense. - Assists Best Man with planning and paying for the Bachelor Party. - Assist with picking out and paying for a gift separate from the one given to the Couple. - Helping with anything that needs to be done on the wedding weekend. Ask if there is anything you can help with. Insist on this. There will be plenty that needs to be done. - Pass out Bulletins or Programs. - Escort guests to pews and to the proper side of the ceremony room. - Escort bridesmaids in the ceremony procession and recession. - Ensure that the ceremony site in clean and nothing or no one is left behind. - Ensure that everyone has rides to reception. - Assist guests in anyway needed. - Seating Family Members in the appropriate arrangements so it runs smoothly between people. - Help guard and transport the wedding gifts. - What with all this your groomsmen will be doing too, another responsibility is given to the groom, gifts for his groomsmen. There are plenty of options, but something personal and something that captures a thanks for all the hard work is exactly what is needed. The rest is up to you.

Driven To Groomstand

Chances are that you're groomsmen aren't all going to be so close that they can be walking everywhere, especially to the wedding, which means another way of travel will be in order. Seeing as there are 250+ million cars in the US alone, the odds are leaning towards a trip by automobile. In fact they're sure to be driving around to a lot more places than just the wedding. The thing about driving is that with all that cruising fun comes a lot of responsibility, and paperwork. Good thing your groomsmen gift choices are wide and varied, because knowing how much they will be, and do, drive means you can choose to influence that driving in a good many ways. It would probably be a good idea to stay away from flasks for now, however nice, and stick to something a little more driver friendly. The gift should be personal and usable (not something that's going to get thrown in a drawer or closet) which should line up a few great choices, namely a CD holder or glove compartment organizer, though you could always be a little less pushy on the organization and give them gifts that are similarly organizational but with a few bits of hardware that any guy will wish he had when he needs to figure something out with his car. And with a little personalization your groomsmen will feel your thanks and be thankful themselves, just the way any friendship should be. Do. Not. Do. This.

Fear of marriage comes in all shapes and sizes. Maybe you express your fear at the bachelor party when at the end of the night your groomsmen find you curled up in the fetal position sobbing like a baby. Or maybe you express fear by doing something manly and physical like jumping out of plane or climbing a mountain before the big day. Or you might be the spiritual type and a nice day of meditation and spa treatments allows you to make peace with your marriage fears (seriously?). Then again you could be just a plain old idiot like this groom who felt drinking 8 hours before D-day in front of his family was a brilliant idea - let alone record and load it up for everybody to see. After watching this video all we could think of was, whether or not this guy was going to at least personalize some shot glasses for he and his groomsmen should his fear rear its ugly head again.

Creepy Wedding Thieves

Not quite the smooth talking character of Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson, nor nearly as fun loving, a Miss Kimberly Cooper wasarrested for crashing a wedding and stealing gifts given to the couple (at least she left the groomsmen gifts alone). According to News Channel 6, she apparently showed up with her daughter and then worked to blend in, going so far as to decorate the car and cut the cake, though she ate it before the bride and groom. She was quite the guest up until the rest of the gathering crowded around the couple and their cake, when she left and had her little 12-year-old grab all of those envelopes. Always one to celebrate it seems, she decided to go to Target and use the gift cards and money the day after. The bride and groom were of course upset when they found their gifts missing, but upon her arrest the police were able to grab all of the cards and Target purchases and return them to the couple. Honestly, psychos like her are the reason grooms and groomsmen need to be ready with their wedding crasher deterrents. They might want to kick back and relax after with a nice Churchill from their triple leather cigar case. Whatever the case just make sure to be on the lookout for these wedding creepers, or arm your guys with groomsmen gifts of engraved baseball bats. Just kiddingmostly.

Credit Cards Don't Lie

The proof is in the pudding and the averages and statistics don't lie. Discovery has published their findings that men actually spend more money than women on weddings. Groomsmen actually spend an average of $1,009 on wedding expenses (which include pre-wedding festivities) while bridesmaids only spent an average of $963. The discrepancy isn't much, but that is hardly the point. It's simply interesting to note that in an industry that has historically always been known to celebrate "her big day" this writer finds it fascinating that men actually spend more money than women, and they're not even the ones buying the groomsmen gifts. And those numbers likely aren't tallying the the ATM withdrawals at the local strip club as groomsmen gifts are being passed out in the form of lap dances. Another interesting fact is that apparently only five percent of brides and grooms claimed that they would want crystal and china, long known as the big registration favorites. The big hit with brides and grooms in today's society is gift cards. It makes sense too, for while it may seem like an impersonal gift, much like giving cash, it also means that they can spend it on whatever they like, which makes sense to me. Apparently with men having as much interest in weddings as women and for more than just picking out groomsmen gifts and finding the best strip club for the bachelor party, there will be plenty of wedding spending for eons to come. Couple Who Marry Several Times

I actually think this might simply be a rouse to get more wedding gifts. Think about it. If you were to have two weddings, don't you end up with twice the amount of presents? And would you have two different wedding parties? How many groomsmen gifts are you supposed to buy, anyway? Jenny Barchfield (AP) notes in her article, "Some Couples Say 'I Do' several times" that with family and friends scattered across the globe, international couples will often times have ceremonies and receptions in their respective countries. If that's the case then do they celebrate two anniversaries a year? If they actually go through with two entire weddings then that's also twice the groomsmen gifts they have to purchase, so I hope they've kept that in mind. I guess I'm just lucky to have married a boring old American from Oklahoma. I can never be the stuck up guy that says to his friends at the country club, "Oh, you only had one wedding? Well, Bunny and I were married in the French Riviera with the prime minister serving as our clergyman and groomsmen gifts of Dom Perignon and then we traveled to Prague to get married so her stepfather, King Whachamadu and his side of the family could be there to celebrate the nuptials as well. Yawn...well, I liked my wedding at the bowling alley with the pigs in the blanket and the Cold Duck champagne personally. Couple Takes Love to New Heights with a Wing-Walk Wedding

Why tie the knot on the ground when you can say "I Do" 1,000 feet above the ground on the wings of a biplane? This article about British lovebirds and their wing-walk nuptials makes other "extreme" weddings seem like a walk in the park. Katie, 23 and her groom, Darren, 24, flew side-by-side harnessed to identical biplanes while the Rev. George Bringham, 67 soared ahead and married the couple over a communications system. Before heading into the heavens, the couple exchanged vows on firm ground. When it came time to say "I do," Katie and Darren took to the skies. Guests listened in from loudspeakers. Given the windy conditions, we imagine the couple couldn't exchange rings or their first kiss as a married couple until they came back down to earth. No groomsmen or bridesmaids joined them in the skies. Maybe the wedding party is afraid of heights or maybe the groom didn't spring for those extra-special groomsmen gifts (shame)! To capture the spirit of the wing-walking couple, why not take the plunge aboard a hot air balloon? It's safer and slightly more romantic than wing walking. If you have thrill-seeking friends, like newlyweds Katie and Darren McWalters, check out these Groomsmen gifts for the adventurer. Ready to find those groomsmen gifts? Shop GroomStand for everything you'll need on the big day.

Couple Marrys Each Other Six Times

(That's Right... Six Times) Tired of wedding planning? There's a lot that goes into weddings: the epic search for groomsmen gifts, cake tastings, trying to stuff that ever-growing paunch into your tux. If you think that's exhausting, try it six times. Annette and Kenneth Lund of Vejle, Denmark jetted off to Vegas last month for a record-breaking four weddings in one day...and a funeral (we're joking about the funeral). It brings their wedding tally to six. It all started out with wedding number one: a secret civil ceremony in 2005. "We sneaked off and got married without telling anyone," said Mrs Lund. "It was romantic because it was just two people in love." Ostensibly, Mr. Lund felt like he missed out on something when he eloped. A year later, he proposed again and the couple threw the big church shindig of their dreams as wedding number two. Four Vegas Weddings in One Day Wedding number three took place in Vegas at the Venetian Hotel. Wedding number four was in a limousine with Elvis as the officiant. Wedding number five took place in a helicopter far above the bright lights of the strip. And for wedding number six, the couple jumped out of a plane and the ceremony was performed while skydiving. The couple owns their own wedding planning business and don't plan to stop the weddings anytime soon. They plan on getting married once a year and recently investigated whether it's possible to marry on the Orient Express. To all the guys who think a yearly wedding is a terrible idea, consider this: a yearly wedding means a yearly honeymoon. Wink Wink. Read the full article about the record-breaking couple. Six Times the Groomsmen Gifts You only have to get married once. But just in case you decide to compete with this record-breaking couple, we found six wild wedding ideas and some groomsmen gifts to match. 1. Bull Fighting Ring. Is there anything more fitting than this Tequila Pub Sign for the couple that ties the knot in a Mexican bull fighting ring? 2. Elope in Sin City. Nothing can top getting married in a helicopter above the strip. If you roll the dice in Sin City, give out these personalized poker sets for groomsmen gifts. 3. Sing it on the Mountaintop. Get married on a mountaintop and bring these lockback knives for survival. 4. Home Run Wedding. Tie the knot on homeplate at your favorite baseball stadium. Take along these travel accessories. And don't forget a gift for the bride. Ooh la la. 6. Touchdown. The ultimate wedding is on the 50-yard line at your favorite stadium. These NFL shot glasses are perfect for celebrating the moment when you break the Lund's record. Better get started. You have a long way to go if you're going to break the Lund's six wedding record.
